Maria Jose Cespedes is the Executive Director for Ashoka in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Before joining Ashoka in 2012 María Jose worked at Sanando Heridas A.C., where she led the design and implementation of health and education programs for indigenous communities. She has 10 years of experience in the social sector, participating in Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship programs in Kenya, Australia and the US, focusing on marginalized and indigenous populations.

She is a professor at Iberoamericana University in Mexico, where she led the design of the social innovation portfolio, and is also a philanthropy advisor for private and family foundations in Mexico.

Maria Jose holds an MA in Development Studies from the University of Sydney, where she studied as an Australian Leadership Award fellow; and a BA in Communications by Iberoamericana University in Mexico City.

Because I find inspiration from these innovators and their work, and I want to contribute to their impact in any way I can.
